He chose the small village of Vagia in Thebes with the great wine culture, the right soils and a deep history which speaks to us about legends and myths, about riddles and answers, about the Sphinx and Edipus that lived under the shade of the same mountain: Fikas (or Fagas as it is used to be called today). We planted vines of Assyrtiko and Malagouzia in 2008 and since then we are watching a miracle being born, raised and ripe in front of our eyes. < Back 1450 Hellenic Exceptional Herbs The “1450 Hellenic Exceptional Herbs” company is involved in the field of cultivating and trading aromatic plants and aims to showcase the exceptional quality of the aromatic plants of the Hellenic land. Our effort has taken place in the Hellenic mainland, on the mountain of Grammos and more specifically in the village of Kotili, in the Prefecture of Kastoria. The village is situated in an altitude of 1.450 metres above sea level, where we cultivate mountain tea (Sideritis) with great respect to nature. The land in which we cultivate our tea is surrounded by forests with a variety of trees such as spruce, pine trees, beech trees, cedar and by a number of natural springs, in an altitude varying from 1.300 to 1.520 metres above sea level. The reason why the “1450 Hellenic Exceptional Herbs” company was created in the first place, was the attempt to redefine the origins of mountain tea and to cultivate it where it originally comes from, “the mountain”. That explains why our company was named after the region’s altitude. Keeping in mind our childhood memories on the mountain, under the hot summer sun trying to find those valuable herbs and taking into account the wise words of our grandparents for the importance and the features of these self-sustained wild herbs, we are trying to bring back the purity and the amazing aromas of the Hellenic land and enclose them in the products we offer. Our goal is exceptional quality, by cultivating in the same place and altitude where the conditions and the microclimate of the region are optimal for plant growth. This results in maintaining their valuable natural sensory features. < Back Philomelia Everything started as a game, when I was just 16 years old (2011). I was amazed by the bee world. Creating a bee colony and monitoring how this world grows and survives, was something truly spectacular. Without a beekeeping history running in our family, I had to learn the old-fashioned way. This meant helping former, experienced beekeepers. In this way, I was able to closely observe the process of integrated production and I was once more fascinated by the process of beekeeping. I was also able to realize how to create a product from scratch, and, even more, the way I can achieve this, in collaboration with nature! Later on, in my 20s (2015) , I decided that this should be my main occupation. In order to achieve this, I attended a series of courses and seminars on beekeeping, offered by the Beekeeping Laboratory of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, along with my studies in Agricultural Technology. After 9 years of commitment and having the necessary expertise in the field, our team manages to produce honey in sufficient quantity and always driven by excellent quality. Our need for evolution and our external thoughts resulted in the creation of a new brand, which goes by the name of “Philomelia” (2020) . A brand that from the very first moment was welcomed and embraced by the local community and was also distinguished in an international, acknowledged, tasting competition conducted in England (Great Taste Awards).
